Your World, now with Extra Hat

We are in your webcam, putting on hats! In real life, things are as they are, but in the virtual world, why not add a jolly hat? Needs Flash and a webcam. (watch demo)

  • Make sure your webcam is plugged in and selected in Flash.
  • Get a nice bright object with good contrast to the background, such as an orange against a mostly white wall.
  • Click on it in the animation above, and it should get a hat put on it.
  • Adjust the hat height to taste, and tweak the "threshold" factor if it isn't working well automatically.
  • If that doesn't work, try a different object. Matte is better than shiney, a single color is better than many, big is better than small, colored is better than black, white, or gray.
  • Wonder what the point of all this is (not much at the moment, fun stuff coming soon...)

Demo

Here's a video showing how to add the hat to a finger puppet (actually a thumb puppet).
