Do you just point your webcam at your face and talk? How... quaint. How refreshingly simple. In the meantime, you are missing a whole fad of image manipulation for adding pizazz to your face or the scene behind through avatars and accessorization. Here are some of the tools out there that you willfully ignoring, you neo-Luddite you.
At a minimum, tell me you're able to play video across your webcam connection, or show your desktop, or output to multiple programs simultaneously. That kind of stuff is actually useful, and there are a million programs to do it. One of them is splitcam.
manycam does basic manipulations like putting your face in a scene, and having accessories track you. The technology looks 2D based, which means the tracking can be quite approximate and not very nuanced. Still, nuance isn't really needed, and all the effects are simple and cheerful.
fix8 is more ambitious, aiming at articulated avatars that replicate aspects of your expression on a face. That sort of thing tends to be a bit fiddly and not as muchfun as it might sound. fix8 also does accessories like hats, sideburns, a cigarette, etc.
